What is a reading course?

An independent study opportunity to explore an area of mathematics which interests you with a faculty member.

Why take a reading course?

• Delve into math & stats topics that would otherwise not be covered in courses offered by the department

• Great way to identify strengths & interests

• Enhance scientific communication skills

What does it look like from a student's perspective?

• Read relevant book chapters and/or journal articles

• Present findings to your supervisor as a report or presentation

What is project course?

A project in pure/applied mathematics or statistics to be carried out under the supervision of a faculty member

Why take a project course?

• Delve into mathematical topics related to active research happening in the department

• Great way to gain research experience

• Enhance scientific communication skills

What does it look like from a student's perspective?

• Independently learn an advanced topic in math & stats

• Give a presentation on your work to faculty members

• Potential to work on open research problems
